Had never planned on posting this photo, but yesterday’s announcement by the Government of Canada about its intention to rebrand the Canadian Civilization Museum as the Canadian Museum of History by 2017 made today’s photo an easy choice to make. I know a number of people who are disappointed by this announcement as they love this museum for both its current focus on world civilizations, as well as the great international exhibitions that it attracts every year. I’m bringing you today’s photograph straight from the middle of nowhere New Jersey where I will be hanging out for the next few days for work. I’ll tell you one thing, the view here is nothing like the photo above. Wishing I was sailing that boat in front of the awesome CIV Museum, instead my not lovely view of the New Jersey Turnpike! 36 – Missinaibi Tugboat as seen at the Canadian Museum of Civilization

While out for a walk on the Gatineau side the other day, I came across this boat exposed in front of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.  While I had no clue what its significance was, this boat was immediately recognized by my family as the boat that used to be on the Canadian $1 bill that circulated between 1973 and 1987.  For a history lesson on the Missinaibi tugboat, the Ottawa river, and Canada’s one dollar bill, check out the following article.   [google_map address=’36’ coordinates=’45.428538,-75.707142′ zoom=’15’ height=’300px’]
